Tracing Acculturations

ARTS team field trips have become adventures that everyone looks forward to: spending time with each other, engaging with arts and culture in our region, and sitting down for lunch together.

On January 13, we had the unique opportunity to spend the day in Riverside with ARTS board member and accomplished visual artist Beliz Iristay. Combining deep cultural traditions from her native Turkey with techniques and materials for production from Ensenada — the place she calls home today — Beliz's exhibition "Tracing Acculturations," which recently opened at the Riverside Art Museum, reveals layers in the immigrant experience of the artist. For the ARTS team, hearing these stories and motivations from Beliz herself offered the ideal way to access the richness of her work. Besides our time at RAM, we also checked out the amazing "Retro Perspective" from the De La Torre brothers and pieces in the permanent collection at the Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture. THANK YOU, Beliz! 🙏
