Leaving a Lasting Legacy - Bayfront Charter High School
This spring, students at Bayfront High School in Chula Vista had the amazing opportunity to work with ARTS Teaching Artist Kelsey Kenny to create a beautiful multimedia mural as part of their art class. This project not only allowed students to showcase their creativity but also left a meaningful impact on their school campus!
Designing a collective Vision
The mural's design was a collaborative effort, with students drawing inspiration from various aspects of their South Bay community and the natural beauty of San Diego. The team collectively agreed to incorporate elements like poppies and jellyfish to represent our unique environment.
Students experienced the joy of creating art together, interacting with peers they might not usually engage with, and contributing to a shared creative goal. The mural combined painting and mosaic sculpture, introducing many students to new artistic techniques and media.
A Legacy of Creativity
The completed mural stands as a vibrant testament to the power of collaboration and creativity. It has already received attention and admiration from other students at the school, with many stopping by to watch the progress and admire the final piece. This project has given students a sense of pride and accomplishment, knowing their work will be a lasting part of their school's legacy.
Bayfront High School's partnership with ARTS has opened new opportunities for students, providing access to diverse artistic experiences and enriching their educational journey. This mural is a symbol of the creativity, teamwork, and community spirit that thrive at Bayfront High School.
We'd love to visit more schools in the South Bay and introduce the ARTS method for creativity and community. Please contact programs@areasontosurvive.org if you’re interested in bringing ARTS to your campus!
