Inside Music Summer Intensive
We have some exciting updates about the Inside Music summer intensive program. Our young participants have been actively organizing the music performances for our upcoming Summer Jam event while gaining practical skills in the music industry.
They are getting firsthand experience with real-world tools like kanban project management systems, which equips them with the necessary skills to manage this extensive project.
Throughout our four-week course, we've been fortunate to host a diverse range of guest speakers who have enriched our program. These guests include Community ARTS Teaching Artist Pablo Dodero, who taught beat-making and multi-track recording, and Tim Pyles, San Diego Music Mayor, who shared his valuable insights gained from working for 91X and 94.9, podcasting, and promoting concerts for the Casbah and the Belly Up.
One of the session's highlights was a fun activity we called "Musical Speed Dating." It was a hands-on experience for our students as they had the opportunity to play and learn various musical instruments, including the bass guitar, drum set, electric guitar, congas, and other percussion instruments. This activity provided an excellent opportunity for the youth to explore and try out different types of instruments.
As the intensive program is coming to an end, we are exploring the world of sound systems. Our main goal with this program is to expose our young participants to all aspects of the music industry and introduce them to the various career paths available. There are numerous career options in this field, from mastering an instrument, and becoming a professional musician, to specializing in sound design and engineering, or even pursuing project management and marketing. Throughout the four-week summer intensive program, participating youth have immersed themselves in hands-on learning experiences in all of these areas, gaining practical skills and expanding their knowledge across various pathways in the music industry.
