Illuminated: Youth Arts Festival - Behind the Scenes

The ARTS Center is gearing up to illuminate the creative spirit of young artists at the upcoming Youth Arts Festival. With a theme centered around "light and shadow," the festival promises a captivating journey through artistic expression and STEAM exploration.

Learn more about the festival and reserve your spot by visiting our ticketing page.

Behind the scenes, our teaching artists have been busy crafting engaging experiences for visitors of all ages. Here's a sneak peek at what each program has been preparing:

ARTS 4 Justice

Working with teens from the Juvenile Court and Community Schools, ARTS 4 Justice explores the theme through 3-dimensional art, through projects like mobiles inspired by Alexander Calder and more conceptional meanings of the theme by shining a light on important social justice issues.

ARTS @ Work

Working with Sweetwater High School Welding Academy interns, ARTS @ Work is creating an inverted pyramid housing sculptural cubes, made from wood and welded metal. The installation will be accompanied by mechanical movement and illuminated by light, showcasing technical skills alongside artistic expression.

Community ARTS

From sewing to digital sculpture and sound design to painting, Community ARTS presents a variety of "light and shadow" themed artworks, reflecting diverse mediums and perspectives.

ARTS on Campus

ARTS on Campus will feature all 10 National School District campuses through “light and shadow” themed projects and over 200 students will be represented through a colorful collaborative installation titled "Color Field of Feelings."

With interactive elements woven into each exhibit, the festival promises an immersive experience for all. Join us on May 18th at the ARTS Center to celebrate youth creativity and exploration.
