Director of Art Education
Julie joined the ARTS team as Director of Art Education in early January. She has worked in arts education in San Diego for 16 years, serving Title I students and their teachers. She has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts to make the arts a vibrant and ongoing part of students’ lives. Most recently, she was awarded an evaluation contact from the California Arts Council to examine the impact of California’s arts for incarcerated youth programs. Prior to arriving at ARTS, Julie served as a Research Assistant at the Centers for Research on Creativity, spearheaded by Dr. James Catterall. She is concurrently completing a Ph.D. in education with a focus on social justice, and her dissertation work examines culturally-relevant creativity measurements.
