Albert Songalia

Visual Arts Department Lead
Albert Songalia, aka Penguino, is a San Diego artist and illustrator, who likes to play and experiment with a variety of media and materials. He comes to ARTS with over seven years of experience and training as a teaching artist from the New Children’s Museum in downtown San Diego, and over two years as a Recreation Leader for Montevalle Recreation Center in Chula Vista. In addition to continuing his teaching artist duties at ARTS, Albert is the appointed lead of the visual arts department as well as a community artist, having painted murals at different schools in collaboration with the local students. Albert also works with CoTA, or Collaborations of Teachers and Artists, a local non-profit educational group that specializes in arts integration.
In addition to being an artist, Albert is a big geek and nerd, a former martial artist and b-boy, or breakdancer. He also DJ’s for fun, and has provided music entertainment during a number of special events at the New Children’s Museum.
