John Alexander, Vice Chair
Senior Project Director & Chief Activator, Elements Partnership
Current Term: January 2015 – June 2018
John has 25 years experience in executive leadership, resource development, and theatre producing (including a Tony-nominated play) which he now applies to his role as a trainer, facilitator, and leadership program developer at Elements Partnership, helping people and organizations create competitive advantage.
John’s favorite life experiences come from the 10+ years he spent traveling the world as a student, performer and staff member of Up With People, the international music and service organization. The highlight of his career (so far) was helping build Mama’s Kitchen as the organization’s first Executive Director.
John earned a BA in Political Science from University of California, San Diego and an MFA in Theatre Management and Producing from Columbia University. He has been involved in several local and national arts advocacy organizations, currently on the Steering Committees of the San Diego Regional Arts & Culture Coalition and Arts Empower.
John lives in Sunset Cliffs with his husband, Johnny, and their dog Penny (wow, you can learn a lot from a German Shepard!) What he most loves about life at the beach is the large, boisterous, often very silly crowd of family and neighbors that are a daily part of it.
